Jewellery Care
Sterling silver is 925, which means 92.5 % fine silver and 7.5% another alloy, which is generally copper. This means that over time the silver will tarnish (blacken), but there are some simple steps below, which can minimize this, so you can enjoy sparkly silver for longer:
- Remove jewellery when bathing, showering or swimming
- Remove jewellery before going to bed
- Avoid contact with body lotions, make up, perfume, hand sanitisers and anything that will potentially react to it. It’s best to put jewellery on last after getting ready.
- Try to avoid wearing jewellery during physical tasks, such as exercise, gardening or housework.
- Avoid exposing your jewellery to harsh cleaning products
- Clean your jewellery with a cotton cleaning cloth, and with warm soapy water and then dried with a soft lint free cloth.
- There are anti tarnish strips you can put in with your jewellery storage to help sustain it.
- To avoid chains tangling together, make sure they are fastened before storing away.
- Don’t leave jewellery in a damp environment or too exposed to sunlight. When not wearing your silver, it’s best to keep it in a zip locked plastic wallet. The cotton pouch provided is a good place for it to stay out of the sunlight.
- Take care when placing jewellery down on hard surfaces as stones can be affected and silver can scratch easily.
- Our skin gives off a natural oil, which can also reduce tarnishing, so it’s best to wear our jewellery as often as possible and enjoy!
